Catherine Ford, born in Bloomsbury (London) She was raised by the mother, grandmother, and her godparents. Her father was absent from her family. When she was a young girl she was suffering from an obsessive compulsive disorder and suffered anxiety linked to associations with words. Ford's interest in acting began in her early years. She was a part of at the National Youth Theatre. After being accepted into the Sylvia Young Theatre School for brief time, Ford decided that this was not the best place for her. Ford instead applied to the Central School of Speech and Drama, finally winning the position on her 4th attempt. A classmate of hers were Shaun Dingwall, who would be later reprise her role in the role of Pete Tyler in Doctor Who. Ford received her degree in 1993. However, prior to that, Ford made a television debut when she appeared in Surgical Spirit in an episode that aired in the year 1991. Ford took the professional name Catherine Tate. Tate appeared in TV programmes such as The Bill, Men Behaving Badly, and London's Burning during the Nineties. Also, she was a regular performer in theatres, before eventually joining with the Royal Shakespeare Company for its 2000-2001 season. Tate's stand-up humor that she started adding to her repertoire in 1996, quickly gained her attention.
